"With old flames living next door to each other and the threads between all the characters tightly woven, there’s plenty of opportunity for dramas to occur."
Drama, scandal and rumours abound in a small village with a potential goldmine lying in wait. In ‘A Fridge Too Far’ by Michelle King we meet a colourful cast of characters in a small village setting, where everyone has known everyone for years. With old flames living next door to each other and the threads between all the characters tightly woven, there’s plenty of opportunity for dramas to occur. In the backdrop of it all, a literal car crash of an event which saw a potential lottery win lost and a magic fridge freezer damaged. This book seems to run along two different storylines: the lives and relationship ups and downs of those in the village and the attempt of a handful of characters to “charm” or simply acquire this beaten up appliance in the hopes of receiving the national lottery numbers. This book follows on from ‘@MagicManTerry and the Old Fridge Freezer’, and although I don’t believe you need to have read the first book to enjoy this one, I think some references may have seemed a bit random to those who didn’t meet the Shufflebottoms at their first introduction. Terry’s slightly dwindling Twitter platform @MagicManTerry continues to simmer in the background of this story, with surmising hashtags dotted throughout the text. In all, with the twists and turns of the village drama and the farcical humour throughout I think this would be a nice addition to what seems to be a bit of an oddball series, and I suspect there may be more to come.
