I was intrigued by the title and synopsis of this book. The blurb calls it the perfect "eerie, cosy mystery" and that's exactly what this book is. Imagine 'buying' a mansion that comes with its own ghost who's determined to scare away anyone who moves in. It also comes with two cats and a care manual for them, when you are terrified of cats. Throw in a psychopath and a band of friends to stay with you, and that's this book! This novel is a great light read, perfect for holidays or summer evenings curled up with a book. I loved all the main characters, including the ghost, and it has lots of different aspects to the story that keep you wanting to read more. It's a bit different from my usual reading, and I'm really glad I got the chance to read it. It's a great stand alone 'cosy' read and I'd definitely recommend it. I'm hoping to see further books that feature these characters.
This eerie cozy mystery follows the adventures of Delia Sanchez, a streetwise ex-cop on disability, with a desperate need for a new start. When she drops in on a real estate open house, for the sale of the rundown Loring Mansion in Santa Clotilde, California she thinks she's discovered just such a life reboot in the enormous 1920s Tudor-style house with its hand-plastered walls and miles of antique oak plank floors. Complications immediately arise, however, leading Delia to the kind of 'do-over' she'd never expected in a house with more secrets than she could've imagined!
