LoveReading View on Watching You

An electrifying and riveting tale, my thoughts and feelings were captured from the moment I started Watching You. Joey returns home to Bristol, she soon becomes rather obsessed with an older man, however doesn’t realise that while she is watching him, someone else is watching her. I was absolutely thrilled to hear I would be reviewing Lisa Jewell (sharp elbows and pushing to the front of the queue may have been involved), as her stories have the ability to really get under my skin. Intrigue and suspicion smiled slyly as they settled over the opening. I adored the way the plot opened out in front of me, tight and fast-moving, creating a throbbing energy which played havoc with my emotions. I met each character with a certain amount of uncertainty, weighing, judging, evaluating as I got to know them. Information is steadily and exquisitely revealed, a beautiful balance is maintained, keeping thoughts on a knife edge. Watching You is a completely wonderful, intensely satisfying tale. I can highly recommend just letting go and sinking into the storyline, be warned though, I didn’t want to come up for air and I devoured it in one-sitting.

Watching You Synopsis

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Watching You by Lisa Jewell. Gripping psychological suspense from the number one best-selling author of Then She Was Gone, as what begins as an innocent crush develops into a dangerous infatuation.

You're back home after four years working abroad, with a brand-new husband in tow.

You're keen to find a place of your own. But for now you're living with your big brother, camped out in his spare bedroom.

And then - quite unexpectedly - you meet the man next door.

He's the head teacher of the local high school. He's twice your age. And he's devastatingly attractive. Soon you find you're watching him. All the time.

But what you don't know is that someone is watching you.

Or that what has started as an innocent crush is quickly turning into an obsession as dark as it is deadly.

Family secrets, illicit passion and an unexplained murder lie at the heart of Lisa Jewell's gripping new novel.

About Lisa Jewell

Lisa Jewell had always planned to write her first book when she was fifty. In fact, she wrote it when she was twenty-seven and had just been made redundant from her job as a secretary. Inspired by Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity, a book about young people just like her who lived in London, she wrote the first three chapters of what was to become her first novel, Ralph’s Party. It went on to become the bestselling debut novel of 1998. Twelve bestselling novels later, she lives in London with her husband and their two daughters. Lisa writes ...
