Ahh, this is a lovely, warm-hearted, treasure of a read. Siblings Ava and Rory take a trip down memory lane when they attend their grandmother’s funeral in Spain. Will a summer in the sun help them find themselves, to rediscover their loves, to laugh, to relax? Jenny Oliver has such a lovely writing style, witty, crisp, yet full of evocative affection and compassion. The characters range from Ava’s young nephew Max, to a handsome television star, through to several fiery Spanish retirees, creating a gorgeously bubbly and fascinating medley. I found myself chuckling out loud, on occasion cringing in sympathy, and cheering them on as they wavered, and sometimes fell off the path to happiness. ‘The Summer House by the Sea’ is a treat, why don’t you settle yourself down and take off to Spain with Ava and Rory. ~ Liz Robinson

Synopsis

The Summerhouse by the Sea by Jenny Oliver

A brand new summery story about returning to your past and finding a new beginning from bestselling author Jenny Oliver! Every Summer has its own story...For Ava Brown, the backdrop to all her sun-drenched memories - from her first taste of chocolate-dipped churros to her very first kiss - is her grandmother's Summerhouse in the sleepy Spanish seaside town of Mariposa. Returning for one last summer, Ava throws herself into a project her grandmother would be proud of. Cafe Estrella - once the heart of the sleepy seaside village - now feels more ramshackle than rustic. Just like Ava, it seems it has lost its sparkle. Away from the exhausting juggle of London life, Ava realises somehow her life has stopped being...happy. But being back at the Summerhouse by the sea could be the new beginning she didn't even realise she needed...

About the Author

Jenny Oliver

Jenny Oliver wrote her first book on holiday when she was ten years old. Illustrated with cut-out supermodels from her sister's Vogue, it was an epic, sweeping love story not so loosely based Dynasty. Since then Jenny has gone on to get an English degree and a job in publishing that's taught her what it takes to write a novel (without the help of the supermodels). She wrote her first book The Parisian Christmas Bake Off on the beach in a notebook that would end up covered in sand each afternoon and damp from the sea. Nowadays her inspiration comes from her love of all things vintage, a fascination with other people’s relationships and an unwavering belief in happy ever after! Follow Jenny on Instagram here.

If you are looking for some bite-size reads why not try her Cherry Pie Island novella series. The first five books - The Grand Reopening of Dandelion Cafe, The Vintage Ice Cream Van Road Trip, The Great Allotment Proposal, One Summer Night at the Ritz and Four Weddings and a White Christmas are out NOW! Mouthwatering, feel-good and the ultimate escapism!
