A Twist of the Knife by Peter James

Lovereading view...

A stunning collection of short stories each with a twist that is sometimes shocking, sometimes unexpected and always hypnotic. Mr James writes in different areas although he has recently become famous for his Roy Grace detective series and indeed Roy’s first case is here in The Stamp of a Criminal. We also have his first Christmas (or is it?) with Cleo and Noah in Santa Drops In. We have ghost stories, horror, futuristic tales and the shortest of them all, The Knock, just four lines, is brilliant and almost as short but truly horrific is Companionship. My First Ghost Mr James claims to be true for it features the ghosts in his own house, four in all. You can see where the man gets some of his inspiration for many of the ghostly tales were related to him as true and some are the basis of his paranormal books. Wonderful stuff. ~ Sarah Broadhurst

If you like Peter James you might also like to read books by Ian Rankin, Susan Hill and Dennis Lehane.

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. Unsurprisingly, James proves to be a master of the short story. Here, we encounter his massively successful Brighton detective Roy Grace in the story that inspired the series, and are granted a truly cherishable bushel of sting-in-the tail stories, taken from his two bestselling e-books, Short Shockers, plus new material that at times rivals the master of the shocking short story, the great Roald Dahl.
