A highly enjoyable fantasy adventure and the start of a new series by an acclaimed and prolific author. Two parallel stories unfold in very different locations. The first plot concerns a young sorcerer who steals a truly remarkable book, leading to a magical pursuit across continents. The second focuses on a girl who defies her parents and her marriage prospects by falling in love with an artist. It also contains magic but rather less ‘running for your life’ so is a softer counterpart to the high adventure of the boy’s escape. Presumably they will meet up in a subsequent volume. We know what to expect from a storyteller of Canavan’s expertise and this book delivers: thrills, magic, love and a revelation about the very nature of reality. Wonderful stuff. ~ Sarah Broadhurst

If you like Trudi Canavan you might also like to read books by Brent Weeks, Maggie Furey and Robert Jordan.

Synopsis

Thief's Magic by Trudi Canavan

International No. 1 bestselling author Trudi Canavan returns with her most powerful and thrilling adventure yet. In a world where magic powers an industrial revolution, Tyen, a student of archaeology, unearths a sentient book called Vella. Once a young sorcerer-bookbinder, Vella was transformed by one of the greatest sorcerers of history. Since then she has been collecting information, including a vital clue to the disaster Tyen's world faces. Elsewhere, in a land ruled by the priests, Rielle has been taught that to use magic is to steal from the Angels. Yet she knows she has a talent for it, and that a corrupter is willing to teach her - should she dare to risk the Angels' wrath. But not everything is as Tyen and Rielle have been raised to believe. Not the nature of magic - and not even the people they trust. Escape to a new world. Discover the magic of Trudi Canavan.
