The Hawley Book of the Dead by Chrysler Szarlan

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

It starts with what could be a murder; a magician’s theatrical trick gone fatally wrong. It continues into a magic-laced family drama. It ends up as a vision-fuelled thriller full of mystery and revenge. A captivating read as the highly engaging narrator Reve searches for safety for his daughters and answers to her strange visions. Her family history turns out to be even more bizarre than a woman descended from witches can believe. She has always known there is real magic in the world and in her blood, but how to harness that magic is another matter. Forget your preconceptions, suspend your disbelief and enjoy this vibrant and exciting start to what should be a marvellous series.

If you like Chrysler Szarlan you might also like to read books by Helen Oyeyemi, Diana Gabaldon and Deborah Harkness.
