Sarah Broadhurst's view...

A daughter of a Spanish aristocrat is sent to a boarding school in England, becomes friendly with a quiet girl and embraced by her family. But this is the 1930s and danger and heartache resound across Europe. Headstrong and passionate, both girls get swept up in the Spanish Civil War in their own ways and still retain their friendship. This is grand stuff which, although first published in 1986, still feels fresh today.
