The Art of Robert E. McGinnis by Robert E McGinnis

Maxim Jakubowski's view...

A Maxim Jakubowski selected title.

Do you remember the Golden Age of paperbacks with their lurid but attractive covers that often defied taste but made you want to devour the book's contents in one gulp? American illustrator McGinnis was the uncontested king of those book covers, an elegant graphic artist whose forte was deadly seductive, long-limbed women that screamed out 'femme fatale' at ten paces and whose distinctive style spanned all genres from thrillers to westerns in an unmistakable fashion and style. This invaluable coffee-table book gathers much of his best work, including many of his acclaimed and classic film posters (BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S anyone?) and magazine illustrations. For fans and collectors of old books this constitutes an ideal Xmas present. and a sterling demonstration that pulp art can also be tasteful, and eminently nostalgic.
