Now retired, Chris Hadfield has fulfilled his life dream of becoming an astronaut. Before hanging up his space-suit he commanded the International Space station and famously sang David Bowie’s Space Oddity...in Space and became a massive Youtube hit. In his book he shares not just the highs of his successful career but gives readers a picture of the dedication and focus involved in becoming an Astronaut and how this thinking can be used by us earthbound humans to fulfil our dreams. The Astronaut code involves preparing for the worst, sweating the small stuff and caring for others and what they think, once you’ve done all this - then enjoy every minute of it.

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. As a nine-year old, Chris Hadfield dreamed of blasting off gloriously into space to explore the universe. He had not anticipated months of physical training and weeks spent in classrooms studying orbital mechanics in Russian. Eventually spending almost 4000 hours in space, he presents a truly unique perspective and his account of life as an astronaut is mind-boggling. However, he also has much to say about life in general and about how deciding to enjoy even the worst experiences has helped him enormously with the messy and unpredictable business of living. A highly unusual autobiography, this is inspiring in all sorts of unexpected ways.

About the Author

Chris Hadfield is one of the most seasoned and accomplished astronauts in the world. The top graduate of the U.S. Air Force test pilot school in 1988 and U.S. Navy test pilot of the year in 1991, Colonel Hadfield was selected to be an astronaut in 1992. He was CAPCOM for 25 shuttle launches and served as Director of NASA Operations in Star City, Russia from 2001--2003, Chief of Robotics at the Johnson Space Center in Houston from 2003--2006, and Chief of International Space Station Operations from 2006--2008. Hadfield most recently served as Commander of the International Space Station where, while conducting a record-setting number of scientific experiments and overseeing an emergency spacewalk, he gained worldwide acclaim for his breathtaking photographs and educational videos about life in space. His music video, a zero gravity version of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' received over 10 million views in its first three days online. Chris Hadfield's book, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, sees his lessons learnt in space applied to life on Earth.
