Angelica's Smile by Andrea Camilleri

Lovereading view...

Many burglaries tax Montalbano in this, his seventeenth outing, but they all pale into insignificance when he meets Angelica, one of the victims, who reminds him of a schoolboy crush he had and puts him in quite a frenzy. Little can distract him (except for some of the exquisite food he is always served at Enzo’s restaurant) but he must work out what the connection between the burglaries is to solve them. Camilleri’s series fairly instantly transport one to sunny Sicily and remain as fresh and delightful as they were way back at the beginning of the series. ~ Sarah Broadhurst

If you like Andrea Camilleri you might also like to read books by Michael Giuttari, David Hewson and Martin O'Brien.

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. The best foreign crime fiction writing is as much to be found in the idiomatic prose of the field as it is in the exotic settings to which we are taken. Both of these elements are delivered with panache by Andrea Camilleri. We’re in the company of Camilleri’s wily Sicilian copper (with his unshakeable love of gourmet Italian cuisine and impatience with his quirky colleagues; and, of course, in Commissario Montalbano’s stamping ground – the exquisite, sleepy territory of Vigàta. Angelica’s Smile is quite as accomplished as any of its predecessors, and the veteran writer’s fans need not hesitate.

Synopsis

Angelica's Smile by Andrea Camilleri

After sitting in the car on the hill for about ten minutes, Montalbano realized this was a big mistake. Because he didn't think at all about the investigation, the burglars, or Mr. Z. He thought about Angelica ...What had he done? When members of Vigata's elite are targeted in a series of perfectly executed burglaries, Inspector Montalbano reluctantly takes the case. It soon becomes clear however that more links these privileged few than simply their lost possessions ...It isn't long too before Montalbano finds himself taken with one of the victims, the captivatingly beautiful young Angelica. But as the detective's attraction grows - until he can think of little else - a series of strange, anonymous letters claiming responsibility for the thefts begin to arrive ...With the allure of Angelica beginning to consume him and his relationship with Livia under threat, Montalbano must focus his mind to solve this perplexing investigation before events spiral out of all control...

About the Author

Andrea Camilleri

Andrea Camilleri is one of Italy’s most famous contemporary writers. His Montalbano series has been adapted for Italian television and translated into nine languages. He lives in Rome.

His Inspector Salvo Montalbano has garnered millions of fans worldwide with his sardonic, engaging take on Sicilian small-town life and his genius for deciphering the most enigmatic of crimes.
