Summer of the Dead by Julia Keller

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

The third murder mystery to feature Belfa (Bell) Elkins, the County Prosecutor of a small community in the Appalachian Mountains, West Virginia. Her troubled past plays on her. Her imprisoned sister is released after thirty years and is now back living with her. There are three random (?) murders but the main core of the tale lies elsewhere. This is very clever, an excellent read beautifully written. (The author is a Pulitzer Prize winner). You really get to know the characters, and care, and strangely you can step right into the series with this one and not be confused. Highly recommended.

If you like Julia Keller you might also like to read books by Linwood Barclay, Henning Mankell and Lisa Gardner.
