Sarah Broadhurst's view...

We first met Fitz as a boy in Assassin’s Apprentice and he has come a long way since. This is the tenth book to feature him. I would advise that you start at the beginning to get the full story, but if you choose not to you are still in for a treat. He is a complex character in a well-realised world, weaving a story of twists and secrets. Robin Hobb has long been hailed as one of the fantasy genre’s greats. Here she is back on top form, and it is wonderful to revisit her greatest creation.

If you like Robin Hobb you might also like to read books by Trudi Canavan, Joe Abercrombie and Terry Goodkind.

Reviews

'In today's crowded fantasy market Robin Hobb's books are like diamonds in a sea of zircons'
George R. R. Martin

'Hobb is superb, spinning wonderful characters and plots from pure imagination'
Conn Iggulden

'Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers... what makes her novels as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics'
The Times
