The Story of You by Katy Regan

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Robyn is a social worker with psychiatric cases. Recovering from a broken past and finishing with a very unsatisfactory boyfriend she is contacted, via Facebook, by an old flame Joe who asks her to come to his mother’s funeral. This opens up all sorts of wounds and memories. Naturally she and Joe rekindle old feelings which further complicate Robyn’s life and choices. There is a mystery in Robyn’s past, a wound that I believe, as with so many social workers, helps her in her work. The background to her various clients is woven into the tale and her stream of consciousness is presented to us in poignant letters. It is all a very clever and absorbing device, with the result being a highly rewarding read.

If you like Katy Regan you might also like to read books by Polly Williams, Jane Green and Lisa Jewell.

Synopsis

The Story of You by Katy Regan

There is no story of me without the story of you I want to explain it all to you. How this happened. How that summer - the summer I was 16 - made me the person I am today. I want to share my memories with you: the happy memories are like sunbursts, sparkling on the sea. But then, like a current dragging me under, there's that summer of 1997. The summer my life exploded. The summer I had to grow up. The summer you came into my life. And so this is the story of you.

About the Author

Katy Regan

Katy Regan worked at 19 magazine for two years before joining Marie Claire in 2002. 'Highlights' in that position included spending ten days in the buff on a nudist resort and becoming a footballer's wife for a week – all in the name of investigative journalism.

In 2004 at the height of her career as the office roving reporter singleton, she fell accidentally pregnant by her best mate (who just remained a friend). Seeing the creative possibilities in this unconventional situation, her editor commissioned her to write a column - And then there were three… which proved so successful it ran for two years and inspired many a reader to write in to Katy with their life story. She has now taken her loyal following to her blog: The State She's In on the Marie Claire website. Her first novel One Thing Led to Another is out now.

She lives in Little Berkhamsted and shares care of her son Fergus with his dad.
