Flesh Wounds by Christopher Brookmyre

Selected by Sarah Broadhurst

The third novel to feature feisty private investigator Jasmine Sharpe which can be enjoyed on its own but fans will welcome back gangster Glen Fallon who may or may not be her father (book one) or have killed her father (book two) and now … but that’s telling. We also get more of DS Catherine McLeod’s childhood and a dark secret. The story is complex with different crimes, new and old, weaving together plus corruption in the police force and dodgy politicians. The whole thing is spotted with Brookmyre’s lovely humour which makes him stand out. We have known him in the past as Christopher but his publishers tell me that the shortening to Chris is for his ‘mainstream’ crime. His more wacky offerings will remain by Christopher! Either way you should read everything he’s written.

If you like Christopher Brookmyre you might also like to read books by Terry Pratchett, Kate Atkinson and Jo-Anne Goodwin.

Who is Sarah Broadhurst

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. As witty and acerbic as ever, Chris Brookmyre’s novels remain an utterly different reading experience from those of his colleagues. This one is an outing for private investigator Jasmine Sharp who has – counter intuitively – bonded with Glenn Fallan, the man who murdered her father before she was born. Now Fallan has been arrested for the murder of a local thug, and Jasmine finds that she is obliged to enter his dangerous territory to find some answers. At the same time, Detective Superintendent Catherine MacLeod has discovered a symbol painted on the head of Fallan’s victim….
