The Beekeeper's Daughter by Santa Montefiore

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

1932 and Grace, the estate’s beekeeper’s daughter, falls for Rufus the son and heir of the big house. Knowing he is far beyond her reach she marries faithful Freddy. World War II arrives and heroic Freddy actually saves Rufus’ life and loses an eye in the process. At the end of the war he and Grace go to America. 1973 their daughter Trixie falls for Rufus’ son Jasper, still totally unsuitable despite the changed attitudes of the time. But Trixie finds a letter which sends her off to England searching for some truths. This is a lovely, lovely book. Santa is an expert at these dual-time family dramas. She is one of the best in the area.

If you like Santa Montefiore you might also like to read books by Belinda Alexandra, Rachel Hore and Anita Burgh.
