Lovereading view...

Three privileged girlfriends from school, who swore their friendship will last throughout their lives, have that trust sorely questioned when the one with no children, babysitting the kids from the other two, loses a child! Before all that we get huge chunks of their upbringing for they are very different. One is half Russian, one Jewish and the third comes from Togo. Her father was the assassinated President. The background section is complicated and it is not until the child disappears that the novel really comes into its own.

A Sam ‘Spider’ Shepherd thriller. He is a great character, an old-fashioned gung-ho hero with knowledge of modern procedures and weapons. This is his eleventh adventure. It all revolves around the Bin Laden killing and a possible conspiracy involving the Brits. Tortures might reveal secrets best kept secret so Spider is called in to intervene, but he too is in trouble. This is a compelling read with the outcome uncertain right up until the last pages; great stuff.

In a beachfront mansion in Martha's Vineyard, Annick and Rebecca relax, safe in the knowledge that their young children are in the care of life-long friend Tash. But by the end of the afternoon, one of the children will have vanished...Annick, daughter of an actress and an assassinated president, has spent her life running from the truth of her family's wealth. Rebecca has always done the right thing. Perfect daughter. Perfect wife. Perfect mother. She's beginning to wonder if she'll ever get chance to live for herself. And Tash, free from the poverty of her heritage, has the world at her feet. So why is she struggling to keep a grip on her life? This is the sweeping story of three very different women; their pasts, their secrets, and their friendship.
