World Book Day!

By LoveReading on 4th March 2019

World Book Day is a small, registered charity relying on the support of National Book Tokens, contributing publishers, booksellers and private benefactors. The scheme celebrates authors, illustrators, books and of course, reading. And It's not just for the children! World Book Day is a great excuse to talk about the great books you've been reading.

Research has shown that reading can benefit people of all ages. Encouraging children to read can set them up for a life of being hungry for knowledge and full of imagination. However, reading can also benefit older people, helping to reduce feelings of lonliness and boosting mental health and wellbeing. The Reading Agency has conducted studies in which 19% or readers said reading stopped them feeling lonely. It has also been found that taking part in shared reading groups is connected to relaxation, calmness, concentration, and an improved quality of life.

Cosy Feet has put together a collection of books in honour of World Book Day on the 7th March that is perfect for older adults. With input from our very own Deborah Maclaren, the collection of books include titles aimed at adults as well as books perfect for reading with grandchildren.
