Guildford Book Festival

By Charlotte Walker on 12th October 2018

The Guildford Book Festival is taking place this week. Here at LoveReading we are happy to support any activity that promotes books to as many people as possible and this week-long festival is dedicated to encouraging an interest in books and reading. More than 50 writers will be at the festival over the course of this week. The festival also has a number of events dedicated to marking the centenary of women’s suffrage.

Other key points raised in events throughout this year's festival is how to stay sane and human in an increasingly hi-tech world (with discussion from Matt Haigh), Adam Rutherford will take the time to discuss what it is to be human in the first place. The Guilford Book Festival will also include an impassioned plea to put more substance back into the news and Max Hastings presents an enthralling reassessment of the Vietnam War.

One of the most important aspects of the book festival is the Festival in Schools Programme. Taking place at the end of the summer term, the festival programme encourages children from 4 to 16 in 12 different schools in the borough took part and were inspired by talented authors.

The Guildford Book Festival is taking place from the 6th to the 14th of October. There are a number of workshops, talks and seminars taking place throughout with something for everyone. Head to the Guildford Book Festival to download the brochure and book your place on an event this weekend.
