Today, Tuesday 14 September is National Reading Group Day, a yearly celebration of reading groups. Book clubs and reading groups are a great way to make new friends and extend your reading habits to new genres.

Did you know that the first recorded reading groups were among women working in factories in the nineteenth century? And now, according to research undertaken a few years ago, there are tens of thousands of groups meeting regularly in the UK reading everything from literary classics to technical manuals!

Of course, if you are in a book group, choosing what to read next can be a serious matter as not every book has subject matter that can really be discussed. So to help you LoveReading lends a hand by, each month, selecting a number of books we feel are perfect and will give your group a rewarding discussion as well as a rewarding read.

Dive into our Book Club Recommendations category to find your next read.

In addition, each month we select one of our absolute favourites as our Book Club Recommendation of the Month. Check out our September selection here, History by Miles Jupp - and scroll down to read some of our other recent reading group recommendations. Here, we not only review the book, but our experts create some reading group questions to help your discussions. See which books takes your fancy.

If you're thinking of setting up a Book Club or Reading Group, check out our feature giving you some advice on where to start.

And finally, each month we invite a Reading Group to talk to us about their reading journey, likes, loves and favourite reads. If you'd like to feature, get in touch on books@lovereading.co.uk
