Marc R. Safran, MD, is a Professor and Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University, Stanford, California. He is currently President of the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) (2017–9) and has previously served as President of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) (2015–6). Dr. Safran has been board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1996 and holds Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He has a wealth of experience as a team physician and since 2011 has been Chief Orthopaedic Consultant to the Women’s Tennis Association (Professional Women’s Tennis Tour) as well as a consultant for the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) Players Associations. He is Deputy Editor of the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery and an editorial board member for Journal of ISAKOS and the American Journal of Sports Medicine
