LOUIS D. RUBIN, JR., Professor Emeritus of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was the founder and president of Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill and the founder and editor of the Sewanee Review. Author or editor of more than fifty books, including American South: Portrait of a Culture, Rubin is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Book Critics Circle. He lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
