Carroll M. Gantz, FIDSA, is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. He headed the industrial design department at the Hoover Company from 1956 to 1972, was director of industrial design for Black & Decker from 1972 to 1986, and headed the design department at Carnegie Mellon from 1987 to 1992. He was president of the Industrial Designers Society of America from 1979 to 1980. His other books include Design Chronicles and The Industrialisation of Design.
