Alexey A. Petrov is a Professor and a C.H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University (WSU). He has been on the faculty since joining WSU in 2001 after postdoctoral fellowships at Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1997. He is an expert in flavor physics, focusing on studies of properties of heavy quarks and leptons. His main research interests include applications of effective field theory techniques to problems in particle physics. He authored numerous research papers and reviews, co-authored a textbook ``Effective Field Theories”, and edited several conference proceedings. His research efforts have been continuously funded by U.S. Department of Energy. Petrov is a Fellow of American Physical Society. His research has been recognized by the National Science Foundation CAREER award, and by several other research awards. He was elected to WSU Academy
