Roy Grace, creation of the award-winning author Peter James, exposes the dark side of the internet in Dead at First Sight. You don't know me, but I thought I knew you . . . A man waits at a London airport for Ingrid Ostermann, the love of his life, to arrive. Across the Atlantic, a retired NYPD cop waits in a bar in Florida's Key West for his first date with the lady who is, without question, his soulmate. The two men are about to discover they've been scammed out of almost every penny they have in the world - and that neither women exist. Meanwhile, a wealthy divorcee plunges, in suspicious circumstances, from an apartment block in Munich. In the same week, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is called to investigate the suicide of a woman in Brighton, that is clearly not what it seems. As his investigations continue, a handsome Brighton motivational speaker comes forward. He's discovered his identity is being used to scam eleven different women, online. The first he knew of it was a phone call from one of them, out of the blue, saying, 'You don't know me, but I thought I knew you'. That woman is now dead. Roy Grace realizes he is looking at the tip of an iceberg. A global empire built on clever, cruel internet scams and the murder of anyone who threatens to expose them.
'Sensational - the best what-if thriller since The Da Vinci Code' - Lee Child, author of Killing Floor. From the number one bestselling author, Peter James, comes an explosive standalone thriller for fans of Dan Brown that will grip you and won't let go until the very last page. Investigative reporter Ross Hunter nearly didn't answer the phone call that would change his life - and possibly the world - for ever. `I'd just like to assure you I'm not a nutcase, Mr Hunter. My name is Dr Harry F. Cook. I know this is going to sound strange, but I've recently been given absolute proof of God's existence - and I've been advised there is a writer, a respected journalist called Ross Hunter, who could help me to get taken seriously.' What would it take to prove the existence of God? And what would be the consequences? This question and its answer lie at the heart of Absolute Proof, an international thriller from bestselling author Peter James. The false faith of a billionaire evangelist, the life's work of a famous atheist, and the credibility of each of the world's major religions are all under threat. If Ross Hunter can survive long enough to present the evidence . . .

Roy Grace, creation of the CWA Diamond Dagger award winning author Peter James, faces his most mysterious case yet in Need You Dead. Lorna Belling, desperate to escape the marriage from hell, falls for the charms of another man who promises her the earth. But, as Lorna finds, life seldom follows the plans you've made. A chance photograph on a client's mobile phone changes everything for her. When the body of a woman is found in a bath in Brighton, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is called to the scene. At first it looks an open and shut case with a clear prime suspect. Then other scenarios begin to present themselves, each of them tantalizingly plausible, until, in a sudden turn of events, and to his utter disbelief, the case turns more sinister than Grace could ever have imagined.
An ugly duckling as a child, Jodie Bentley had two dreams in life - to be beautiful and rich. She's achieved the first, with a little help from a plastic surgeon, and now she's working hard on the second. Her philosophy on money is simple: you can either earn it or marry it. Marrying is easy, it's getting rid of the husband afterwards that's harder, that takes real skill. But hey, practice makes perfect ...Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is feeling the pressure from his superiors, his previous case is still giving him sleepless nights, there have been major developments with his missing wife Sandy, and an old adversary is back. But worse than all of this, he now believes a Black Widow is operating in his city. One with a venomous mind ...and venomous skills. Soon Grace comes to the frightening realization that he may have underestimated just how dangerous this lady is.
Highly Recommended. Before embarking on his bestselling series of Roy Grace crime novels Peter James wrote many bestselling supernatural thrillers. With The House on Cold Hill he makes a return to this genre. All James’ books are informed by a fascination with how the world works and the tricks these workings can play on people and this novel is no exception. The cover, the title and the opening scenes all suggest that we are in for a classic ghost story. After a sly and shocking bit of misdirection with the opening chapter we are soon in the territory of the bright young metropolitan family arriving in their new dream country home only to find that old houses come with secrets and history. But there is something else going on here. Yes there are ghostly apparitions but in amongst an almost comical series of architectural disasters as they discover the true horror of the nightmares hinted at in the structural survey, there is something else very interesting going on here. To say more would be to invite spoilers so let’s just say that time is an odd thing and very little is as we perceive it. This is a hugely readable book (the pages really do fly by) and James creates engaging characters and keeps us with them with expertly delivered shocks and twists. Anyone who loves ghost stories, any fan of Stephen King, is going to have a lot of fun (and a lot of surprises) in The House on Cold Hill.

That same afternoon, workmen digging up an old asphalt pat in a park in another part of the city, unearth the remains of a young woman in her early twenties, who has been dead for 30 years. At first, to Roy Grace and his team, these two events seem totally unconnected. But then another young woman in Brighton goes missing and another body from the past surfaces. Meanwhile, an eminent London psychiatrist meets with a man who claims to know a piece of information about Logan. Later Roy Grace makes the chilling realization that this one thing is the key to both the past and the present ...Brighton has its first serial killer in over eighty years.

Experienced author of supernatural thrillers turned tack with Dead Simple and began a crime series starring an intriguing character, DS Roy Grace, based in Brighton. It was terrific. Now we have the second, equally terrific. We get to know Roy better as he is faced with a particularly nasty case. Following several strands in short, cliff-hanger sections, the plotting is excellent as tension mounts alarmingly. I was completely gripped, albeit somewhat disturbed by the very unpleasant nature of the crimes. This is excellent stuff, highly recommended. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace series:1. A totally gripping crime thriller with a new cop on the block, one Roy Grace, scarred by a past which surely will be revealed in future books. His first case for us involves a man buried alive in what appears to be a harmless stag-night prank but turns very sinister indeed. This is literally unput-downable, with a great twist. A must-read for all crime addicts. Comparison: Graham Hurley, Mark Billingham, Ian Rankin. Similar this month: Stuart MacBride, Robert Crais.

But then another young woman in Brighton goes missing and another body from the past surfaces. At the same time a strange man visits an eminent London psychiatrist, claiming to have a piece of information on the missing woman, Logan, that turns out, at first, to be wrong-or so it seems. It is only later Roy Grace makes the chilling realization that this one thing is the key to both the past and the present-and now, beyond any doubt, he knows that Brighton has its first ever serial killer.
