Belle de Jour was our Guest Editor in September 2010 - click here - to see the books that inspired her writing.
Belle de Jour rose to prominence with her award winning blog about her life as a London call girl. Her diaries, The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl and The Further Adventures of a London Call Girl, have both been bestsellers and adapted for a hit TV series starring Billie Piper. After six years of anonymity, Belle de Jour revealed her true identity in November 2009 as that of research scientist Dr Brooke Magnanti.
Some interesting and useful insights in to relationships and the way men think. Belle writes in her usual witty style which makes this a fun read even if you aren’t necessarily looking for a self help guide.

Unlike the previous two books by this author this has been marketed as fiction however, the story is about how things may have turned out for Belle and her friends so it will be up to you to decide if you believe this is fiction or what has actually happened. Full of amusing anecdotes and antics as we have come to expect from this author, with honest, straight-forward talking. it may not contain quite the ‘shock’ value of the first book but still makes for an interesting and funny read. You have probably caught some of the coverage for this book. It first appeared as a web diary and then there was much speculation as to whom the author might be. To date she remains anonymous, even through the book deal. Smart girl. What she does here is to expand on her web diary and give more on her life, her ‘calling’ and her origins. It’s very explicit, very chatty and not the sort of thing you want to read in one sitting for it’s a tad repetitive.Comparison: Catherine Millet Similar this month: None. ''She lists like Hornby. She talks dirty like Amis. She has the misanthropy of Larkin and examines the finer points of sexual technique as she is adjusting the torque on a beloved but temperamental old E-type...It's hard to believe that this clever and candid new voice has no more to say. Whoever the author is, she should give up the day job. Only then will we find out what the real Belle de Jour is made of.' Independent This follow-up to the hugely successful 'Intimate Adventures' will be just as bold, funny and brilliant. Peppered with agony-aunt letters and advice, and stories from her 'working' life, it's also the story of a young woman making her way in the world - told in Belle's inimitable voice.
