The Start Up Visa: Key to Job Growth & Economic Prosperity in America
This book provides a compelling argument for how and why U.S. immigration policy is working against our own best interest. It explores why a bipartisan Startup Visa for foreign entrepreneurs, which the U.S. Congress has repeatedly failed to approve, is now more crucial than ever. And it reaches back through the generations to acknowledge immigrants’ contributions to America. If we want a future of economic prosperity, the Startup Visa is essential for keeping America in this global race as the rest of the world is catching up, embracing the entrepreneurs we are turning away. With lively analysis of how existing visa options such as H-1B, L-1A, E-2 visas are not always good fits for the modern-day investor-backed founder and with discussion of the recently restored International Entrepreneur Program, the book will be informative and educational for entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers alike.“I have followed Tahmina's work over the past decade as she was one of the few lawyers advocating with me for a Startup Visa. Though little has changed since our advocacy started more than a decade ago, her book is more relevant today and essential reading for anyone who cares about the economy, job creation, and entrepreneurship in America.”–Brad Feld, Managing Partner, Foundry Group“Tahmina Watson has produced an excellent book on the startup visa that should be read by policymakers, entrepreneurs and others attempting to navigate and improve America’s often challenging legal immigration system.” –Stuart Anderson, Executive Director, National Foundation for American Policy

The Stars in Our Pockets: Getting Lost and Sometimes Found in the Digital Age
What shapes our sense of place, our sense of time, and our memory? How is technology changing the way we make sense of the world and of ourselves? The human brain's ability to adapt has been an evolutionary advantage for the last 40,000 years, but now, for the first time in human history, we're effectively living in two environments at once-the natural and the digital-and many of the traits that help us online don't help us offline, and vice versa. Drawing on his experience of acclimating to a life of solitude in the woods and then to digital life upon his return to the city, Howard Axelrod explores the human brain's impressive but indiscriminate ability to adapt to its surroundings. The Stars in Our Pockets is a portrait of, as well as a meditation on, what Axelrod comes to think of as "inner climate change." Just as we're losing diversity of plant and animal species due to the environmental crisis, so too are we losing the diversity and range of our minds due to changes in our cognitive environment. As we navigate the rapid shifts between the physical and digital realms, what traits are we trading without being aware of it? The Stars in Our Pockets is a personal and profound reminder of the world around us and the worlds within us-and how, as alienated as we may sometimes feel, they were made for each other.

The Stars in Our Eyes: The Famous, the Infamous, and Why We Care Way Too Much About Them
From bestselling author Julie Klam comes a lively and engaging exploration of celebrity: why celebrities fascinate us, what it means to be famous today, and why celebrities are so important. “When I was young I was convinced celebrities could save me,” Julie Klam admits in The Stars in Our Eyes, her funny and personal exploration of fame and celebrity. As she did for subjects as wide-ranging as dogs, mothers, and friendship, Klam brings her infectious curiosity and crackling wit to the topic of celebrity. As she admits, “I’ve always been enamored with celebrities,” be they movie stars, baseball players, TV actors, and now Internet sensations. “They are the us we want to be.” Celebrities today have a global presence and can be, Klam writes, “some girl on Instagram who does nude yoga and has 3.5 million followers, a thirteen-year-old ‘viner,’ and a Korean rapper who posts his videos that are viewed millions of times.” In The Stars in Our Eyes, Klam examines this phenomenon. She delves deep into what makes someone a celebrity, explains why we care about celebrities more than ever, and uncovers the bargains they make with the public and the burdens they bear to sustain this status. The result is an engaging, astute, and eye-opening look into celebrity that reveals the truths about fame as it elucidates why it’s such an important part of life today.

The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations
If you cut off a spider's leg, it's crippled; if you cut off its head, it dies. But if you cut off a starfish's leg it grows a new one, and the old leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. What's the hidden power behind the success of Wikipedia, Craigslist, and Skype? What do eBay and General Electric have in common with the abolitionist and women's rights movements? What fundamental choice put General Motors and Toyota on vastly different paths? How could winning a Supreme Court case be the biggest mistake MGM could have made? After five years of ground-breaking research, Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom share some unexpected answers, gripping stories, and a tapestry of unlikely connections. The Starfish and the Spider argues that organizations fall into two categories: traditional "spiders," which have a rigid hierarchy and top-down leadership, and revolutionary "starfish," which rely on the power of peer relationships. The Starfish and the Spider explores what happens when starfish take on spiders (such as the music industry vs. Napster, Kazaa, and the P2P services that followed). It reveals how established companies and institutions, from IBM to Intuit to the US government, are also learning how to incorporate starfish principles to achieve success. The book explores: * How the Apaches fended off the powerful Spanish army for 200 years * The power of a simple circle * The importance of catalysts who have an uncanny ability to bring people together * How the Internet has become a breeding ground for leaderless organizations * How Alcoholics Anonymous has reached untold millions with only a shared ideology and without a leader The Starfish and the Spider is the rare book that will change how you understand the world around you.

The Stan Freberg Show: The Complete Collection
The Stan Freberg Show ran on CBS radio for only fifteen episodes in 1957. It starred comedian Stan Freberg and featured his stock company of performers: Daws Butler, June Foray, and Peter Leeds. It also featured singing star Peggy Taylor, the vocal stylings of The Jud Conlon Rythmnaires, and the musical direction of Billy May. Despite its short run, the show developed running gags and stock jokes that are still remembered today, including Freberg's ambivalence toward Madison Avenue to the overwhelmingly popular interviews with a sneaker-wearing Abominable Snowman. Much of the show took deadly satiric aim at the advertising business, making it difficult for CBS to find a sponsor. By week thirteen it was apparent that a sponsor would not be signing on, so CBS cancelled the show after just fifteen episodes. The Stan Freberg Show was the last American network radio show to devote itself purely to comedy. This collection features all fifteen episodes of The Stan Freberg Show plus a bonus episode of The CBS Radio Workshop from 1956 starring Stan Freberg and his stock company, including Alan Reed (the voice of Fred Flintstone). On this thirty-minute show, Stan explains the art of satire to a skeptical censor and illustrates the explanation with his own recordings. The collection is a must for Freberg lovers! 07/14/57 - Incident at Los Varocis (First show)07/21/57 - Interview with the Abominable Snowman07/28/57 - Miss Universe Contest08/04/57 - Lecture on Hi-Fi08/11/57 - Orville Arrives from the Moon08/18/57 - Program Censor08/25/57 - The Lone Psychiatrist09/01/57 - Uninterrupted Melody09/08/57 - Spoof of 'The Honeymooners'09/15/57 - Another Hi-Fi Lecture09/22/57 - Francis Butch Carmley, Football Hero09/29/57 - How to Repair a Leaky Faucet10/06/57 - All About Werewolves10/13/57 - Sponsored by Freberg10/20/57 - Final Show08/31/56 - Bonus: CBS Radio Workshop - An Analysis of Satire

“You have the right to work, but for the work's sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. Desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive in working. Never give way to laziness, either. Perform every action with you heart fixed on the Supreme Lord. Renounce attachment to the fruits. Be even-tempered in success and failure: for it is this evenness of temper which is meant by yoga. Work done with anxiety about results is far inferior to work done without such anxiety, in the calm of self-surrender. Seek refuge in the knowledge of Brahma. They who work selfishly for results are miserable.” ? Bhagavad Gita This German-language edition of the Bhagavad Gita is a talk between prince Arjuna and his charioteer Krishna. At the start of a war between the Pandavas and Kauravas, Arjuna is filled with great despair about the violence the war will cause in the battle against his own kin. He wonders if he should renounce and seeks Krishna's counsel, whose answers constitute the Gita. Krishna counsels Arjuna to 'fulfill his duty to uphold the Dharma' through 'selfless action'.The Krishna–Arjuna dialogues cover a broad range of spiritual topics, touching upon philosophical issues that go far beyond the war According to some, Bhagavad Gita was written by Lord Ganesha and was told to him by Vyasa.
