We'll discuss many highly-effective negotiation tactics that enable you to get the best possible deal for yourself while also building a strong and trusting working relationship with the other party. You'll secure yourself a number of happy long-term business partners. While some negotiation tactics use strength, the most effective tactics use intelligence, strategy, and finesse. Introvert Negotiators Can Control Others Using Forms of Leverage Anyone Can Freely Obtain: Everythin
Leverage is often the primary factor that moves negotiated outcomes in favor of one party at the expense of the other party. Leverage in negotiations is the power that one party has to influence - or control - the other party to the negotiation. Leverage is, therefore, incredibly important in determining the outcome of the negotiation. If you think of a negotiation as dividing up a pie, leverage is, in fact, so powerful that someone with very poor negotiating skills, but who holds a lot of leverage, can often obtain the biggest piece of the pie - or even most of the pie - despite having very poor negotiating skills. Should a negotiator have both excellent negotiating skills and substantial leverage, that negotiator will easily dominate the negotiation. Which party has the stronger influence or control over the other party can shift throughout the negotiation. Leverage is also not consistent with respect to all issues of the negotiation. You could have a lot of leverage in one area of the negotiation, but very little leverage in other areas of the negotiation. You might also have a lot of leverage over some specific individual members of the other team, but hardly any leverage over other specific individual members of the other team. You must, therefore, strategically apply your leverage in the way that maximizes your control of the negotiation. Throughout this book, we'll discuss many ways you can both increase your leverage and decrease the other party's leverage. There are many different sources of leverage that can be easily gained or lost through your actions or the actions of the other party. You'll be able to start applying what you've learned immediately after you've finished reading this book by using the example procedures, responses, strategies, behaviors, and action steps. It works; and it will work for you. Read this book, apply the information, and see for yourself.

The Sewing Girl's Tale: A Story of Crime and Consequences in Revolutionary America
Renowned historian John Sweet offers a riveting Revolutionary Era drama of the first published rape trial in American history and its long, shattering aftermath, revealing how much has changed over two centuries—and how much has not. On a moonless night in the summer of 1793 a crime was committed in the back room of a New York brothel—the kind of crime that even victims usually kept secret. Instead, seventeen-year-old seamstress Lanah Sawyer did what virtually no one in US history had done before: she charged a gentleman with rape. Her accusation sparked a raw courtroom drama and a relentless struggle for vindication that threatened both Lanah’s and her assailant’s lives. The trial exposed a predatory sexual underworld, sparked riots in the streets, and ignited a vigorous debate about class privilege and sexual double standards. The ongoing conflict attracted the nation’s top lawyers, including Alexander Hamilton, and shaped the development of American law. The crime and its consequences became a kind of parable about the power of seduction and the limits of justice. Eventually, Lanah Sawyer did succeed in holding her assailant accountable—but at a terrible cost to herself. Based on rigorous historical detective work, this audiobook takes us from a chance encounter in the street into the sanctuaries of the city’s elite, the shadows of its brothels, and the despair of its debtors’ prison. The Sewing Girl’s Tale shows that if our laws and our culture were changed by a persistent young woman and the power of words two hundred years ago, they can be changed again.

Everywhere we look, companies and governments are spying on us-seeking information about us and everyone we know. Ad networks monitor our web-surfing to send us 'more relevant' ads. Databases of human information are assembled for purposes of 'training' artificial intelligence programs designed to predict everything from traffic patterns to the location of undocumented migrants. We're even tracking ourselves, using personal electronics like Apple watches, Fitbits, and other gadgets. As Mark Zuckerberg once put it, 'the Age of Privacy is over.' But Zuckerberg and others who say 'privacy is dead' are wrong. In Why Privacy Matters, Neil Richards explains that privacy isn't dead, but rather up for grabs. Richards shows how the fight for privacy is a fight for power that will determine what our future will look like, and whether it will remain fair and free. Privacy matters because good privacy rules can promote the essential human values of identity, power, freedom, and trust. If we want to preserve our commitments to these precious yet fragile values, we will need privacy rules. Richards explains why privacy remains so important and offers strategies that can help us protect it from the forces that are working to undermine it. Pithy and forceful, this is a must-listen for anyone interested in a topic that sits at the center of so many current problems.

Ending Mass Incarceration: Why it Persists and How to Achieve Meaningful Reform
In this book, Katherine Beckett explains how and why mass incarceration persists despite growing recognition of its many failures, plummeting crime rates, and widespread efforts by state legislators and others to reduce prison populations. Beckett identifies three primary forces sustaining incarceration rates in this country: political dynamics around violence, resistance to criminal legal system reform in suburban and rural counties, and the failure of popular drug policy reforms to reduce the reach of the criminal legal system. Beckett then turns to the question of how we can meaningfully decrease the size of the criminal justice system when so many reforms have failed. Drawing on extensive research, she argues for political and policy shifts that would significantly reduce the scale of punishment while also addressing the underlying social problems to which those extreme penalties are a misguided response. We need to reimagine our view of public safety and understand that locking up millions of our citizens does not make us safer. Rather than focusing on one key change as a cure for our criminal justice system, Ending Mass Incarceration provides a cogent analysis of the dynamics working to sustain mass incarceration, the reforms that have been attempted to date, and the reforms we need to bring about truly transformative change.
