The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Audiobook

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Author: Washington Irving Narrator: Joseph Thompson Release Date: December 2020

Do you want to listen to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? If so then keep reading… Washington Irving's classic, 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,' has been making spines tingle since 1820! Irving tapped into a timeless fear: the prospect of a late-night journey shrouded in fog turning suddenly fatal. Our imaginations conjure every conceivable danger, but in one of history's most famous encounters, one Ichabod Crane comes—dare we say it, face to face? —with the 'specter known at all the country firesides,' the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. A classic, distinctively American tale, that evokes additional terror as Halloween comes and goes each year, this is the original, 1820 version, as originally found in Irving's collection of short stories entitled 'The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.' The Turn of the Screw Audiobook

The Turn of the Screw

Author: Henry James Narrator: Joseph Thompson Release Date: December 2020

Do you want to listen to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? If so then keep reading… Widely recognized as one of literature's most gripping ghost stories, this classic tale of moral degradation concerns the sinister transformation of two innocent children into flagrant liars and hypocrites. The story begins when a governess arrives at an English country estate to look after Miles, aged ten, and Flora, eight. At first, everything appears normal but then events gradually begin to weave a spell of psychological terror. One night a ghost appears before the governess. It is the dead lover of Miss Jessel, the former governess. Later, the ghost of Miss Jessel herself appears before the governess and the little girl. Moreover, both the governess and the housekeeper suspect that the two spirits have appeared to the boy in private. The children, however, adamantly refuse to acknowledge the presence of the two spirits, in spite of indications that there is some sort of evil communication going on between the children and the ghosts. Without resorting to clattering chains, demonic noises, and other melodramatic techniques, this elegantly told tale succeeds in creating an atmosphere of tingling suspense and unspoken horror matched by few other books in the genre. Known for his probing psychological novels dealing with the upper classes, James in this story tried his hand at the occult — and created a masterpiece of the supernatural that has frightened and delighted readers for nearly a century. Around The World In 80 Days

Author: Jules Verne Narrator: Joseph Thompson Release Date: December 2020

Do you want to listen to Around the World in Eighty Days? If so then keep reading… Around the World in Eighty Days is a classic adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, published in 1873. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a £20,000 wager (roughly £1.6 million today) set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne's most acclaimed works. The story starts in London on Tuesday, October 1, 1872. Fogg is a rich English gentleman living in solitude. Despite his wealth, Fogg lives a modest life with habits carried out with mathematical precision. Very little can be said about his social life other than that he is a member of the Reform Club. Having dismissed his former valet, James Foster, for bringing him shaving water at 84 °F instead of 86 °F, Fogg hires a Frenchman by the name of Jean Passepartout as a replacement. At the Reform Club, Fogg gets involved in an argument over an article in The Daily Telegraph stating that with the opening of a new railway section in India, it is now possible to travel around the world in 80 days. He accepts a wager for £20,000 from his fellow club members, which he will receive if he makes it around the world in 80 days. Accompanied by Passepartout, he leaves London by train at 8:45 P.M. on Wednesday, October 2, 1872, and is due back at the Reform Club at the same time 80 days later, Saturday, December 21, 1872. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin Audiobook

The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

Author: Benjamin Franklin Narrator: Joseph Thompson Release Date: December 2020

Do you want to listen to The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin? If so then keep reading… The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them. There are actual breaks in the narrative between the first three parts, but Part Three's narrative continues into Part Four without an authorial break.
