The Collected Bowdrie Dramatizations
Follow Chick Bowdrie's adventures in these six classic westerns by America's favorite storyteller, Louis L'Amour. Chick Bowdrie could have been an outlaw, but he rode a different trail. The Texas Rangers recruited Bowdrie to help pursue the most wanted men in the Southwest. And Bowdrie knew the terrain all too well: the dusty trails, bitter cattle feuds, the desperate killers, and the weather-beaten towns that could explode into chaos at the wrong word. The Rangers were called in to handle the tough cases, and Bowdrie was the toughest and smartest. He had vowed to seek out justice, but there were times when justice required fists and guns….

Riders of the Purple Sage: The Restored Edition
Now, for the first time in a century, Zane Grey's best-known novel is presented in its original form exactly as he wrote it. When in the early 1900s Zane Grey took his manuscript to two publishing companies, they rejected it because of the theme of Mormon polygamy, fearing it would offend their readers and subscribers. Then Grey made a special plea to Frederick Duneka, who was vice-president of Harper & Bros. and who had been Mark Twain's editor at that company. Duneka and his wife read the novel and liked it but feared it would offend some readers. Harper & Bros. agreed to publish a changed version of the novel and purchased both the book and magazine-serial rights. Given the task of executing the necessary editorial changes, a senior editor of the company made changes in tone, diction, and style as well as content. The novel first appeared in nineteen installments in the monthly magazine Field & Stream from January 1912 to July 1913. Blackstone Audio here presents the original, uncensored, unabridged novel Riders of the Purple Sage, obtained through the Golden West Literary Agency with the cooperation of Zane Grey's son, Loren Grey, and the Ohio State Historical Society. In Cottonwoods, Utah, in 1871, a woman stands accused and a man is sentenced to whipping. Into this travesty of small-town justice rides the one man whom the town elders fear. His name is Lassiter, and he is a notorious gunman who's come to avenge his sister's death. It doesn't take Lassiter long to see that this once peaceful Mormon community is controlled by the corrupt Deacon Tull, a powerful elder who's trying to take the woman's land by forcing her to marry him, branding her foreman as a dangerous 'outsider'. Lassiter vows to help them. But when the ranch is attacked by horse thieves, cattle rustlers, and a mysterious masked rider, he realizes that they're up against something bigger, and more brutal, than the land itself. "Zane Grey epitomized the mythical West that should have been...The standout among them is Riders of the Purple Sage."-True West

Louis L'Amour brings you the Wild West as you've never heard it before. This classic story, complete with a full cast, stirring music and authentic sound effects, sweeps listeners back to the rough and ready days of America's frontier, where a man had to live by his wits...and his gun. Death is no stranger to Almagre, a rough boomtown in which the local cemetery, Boot Hill, is almost as crowded as the saloons. Almagre had sprung up in just under two years with a silver strike, and in that short time, it had buried three town marshals. Into this wild and bloody town rides Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie, trailing a Pecos bank robber who left two men dead. All Bowdrie has to go on is an unconvincing eyewitness description, a name scrawled on a tattered post card...and his own skills as a master tracker. But it's his skill with a gun Bowdrie will need when he looks for answers in Almagre. For the town is gripped in a stranglehold by a ruthless cattle baron named Bonelli. To bring his quarry back, Bowdrie will pin on the marshal's star to face down Bonelli and his gunmen--in a town where a badge is a death warrant.

Long Way to Texas: Three Novels
Long Way to Texas brings together three rare Kelton novels, all with Texas roots. In Joe Pepper, the titular character, while awaiting a hangman's noose, tells the story of how he discovered a propensity for violence while seeking revenge. The irony is that Joe's keen sense of justice puts him on the wrong side of the law. Long Way to Texas, taking place just after the Civil War battle of Glorieta Pass in New Mexico, is the story of Lt. David Buckalew, whose remnant of Confederate riflemen is under siege and low on rations and water. Complicating matters is the young officer's self-doubt and fear of failure. Thomas Canfield of Eyes of the Hawk, known to the Mexican citizens of his town of Stonehill, Texas, as "El Gavilan"-the Hawk-is not a man to forgive a wrong. He sets out to prove this to an insolent ranchman rival who intends to build a fortune at Canfield's expense. The Hawk has a radically different idea: he will destroy the town before yielding to his enemy. This omnibus edition of three novels by Elmer Kelton features an introduction by Dale L. Walker, author of twenty-three novels and a past president of the Western Writers of America.
