'NBC University Theater' initially started in Chicago with a remit to bring adaptations of classic novels, usually Anglo-American, to a radio audience. Additionally, if listeners signed up they received college credit to a radio-assisted correspondence course. A study guide, The Handbook of the World's Great Novels, was available for 25 cents. In its later years it also included short stories and plays and went on to win the distinguished Peabody award.Unlike many other radio shows University Theatre did not pursue the glamourous stars for its productions but instead relied on excellent distillations of the novels and first class acting alongside high production values.But now its time to enjoy these timeless novels. La obra aquí resumida no solo destaca por lo anterior, sino también por ser el último gran libro de caballería (y a su vez su parodia), por incluir la primera gran crítica literaria en español y, sobre todo, por la universalidad de sus magistrales personajes.
Cervantes convirtió el Quijote en patrimonio de la literatura universal. La obra era y ha sido siempre para todos; pero sólo su repetida lectura a través de las edades de la vida puede conducir a su pleno goce y comprensión -experiencia atestiguada por lectores de todas las épocas y lugares -, sintiendo al mismo tiempo que no se ha llegado ni se llegará nunca a su fondo insondable. La cueva de Salamanca is an entremas written by Don Quixote author Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally published in 1615 in a collection called "Ocho comediasy y ocho entremeses nuevos, nunca representados".
The head of the household, Pancracio, is about to leave for a four-day trip and his wife Leonarda appears to be deeply saddened by his departure. In reality, Leonarda is not the least bit sad by her husband's absence. In fact, she eagerly awaits the times he is away so that she may entertain guests.However, this time, soon after her husband leaves, a stranger appears at the door asking for a place to stay. Leonarda and her servant decide to put up the weary traveler, who identifies himself as a student from Salamanca who has fallen on hard times. When her two guests Reponces and Nicolas arrive, they make fun of the student's clothing and apparent lack of money. But, the women defend the presence of the student and they all proceed to have a good time. Then, when Pancracio unexpectedly returns home that evening due to transportation issues, the student's wit and stories save Leonarda, permitting her deception to remain unnoticed (at least for another night).
The first European novel, and one of the greatest, is a marvellously comic study of delusion and its consequences: Don Quixote, the old gentleman of La Mancha, takes to the road in search of adventure and remains undaunted in the face of repeated disaster.
