Author and illustrator Dorreya Wood pens children's story with spiritual message

Acclaimed picture book Just a Dream introduces young readers to the Mind, Body and Spirit genre
A British author and illustrator has released a critically-acclaimed children's picture book with a deeper moral meaning.
Just a Dream is the third book by Dorreya Wood and like its predecessors, combines a fantastic tale with a Mind, Body and Spirit (MBS) undertone.
The 36-page title, published by Pick-A-Woo Woo, has already won the hearts of critics and readers alike for its "charming" rhyming narrative and "enchanting" illustrations.
But it looks set to become one of this year's best-sellers in its genre thanks to mum-of-two Dorreya's ''growing army'' of fans.
Speaking yesterday from her home in Stoke-On-Trent, Dorreya said she hoped her work would both entertain children and assist their "spiritual growth".
She said: "At the heart of my work is a desire to share with young readers the Oneness - or rather, our remembrance of it - that is so vital in the healing of our planet and our lives.
"We are all connected on a deeper, fundamental level and I wanted that message of love and hope to shine through.
She added: "It seems the MBS genre in now growing in popularity and I am delighted to be playing my part in its success story."
Dorreya began writing after studying art and design at Chelsea College of Art, London.
Her illustrative children's books have enjoyed comparison to that of The Snowman creator Raymond Briggs and have now become something of a "minor phenomenon".
Her latest work, Just a Dream, tells the story of Justin, a spoilt little boy who goes an incredible adventure with his toy penguin and learns an important lesson along the way.
He travels to a snowy kingdom where he finds his toy is actually a prince. Here in chilly Penguinland he plays with his new-found friends until dawn, gliding home to the 'real' world on a floating ice-cake.
Even so, Justin has discovered a timeless truth: life is an ongoing journey of discovery, growth and love watched over and guided by a "Higher Self".
