The web-slinger's 1962 debut in Amazing Fantasy fetches over $1m in auction
Spider-Man's first ever comic has sold for a record $1.1m (£679,000) in auction.
The near-mint edition of Amazing Fantasy #15 was bought by a US collector from Philadelphia.
The colourful cover depicts the wall-crawler clutching a villain in one arm while swinging from his web.
The Marvel comic dates from 1962. When first released it sold for just 12 cents a copy.
ComicConnect.com chief executive Stephen Fishler says the $1.1m it fetched is the highest sum ever paid for a Silver Age comic.
He said: "The late 1950s and early 1960s are considered the Silver Age of comic books.
"'The sale of this book crushed all previous records. Up until today's $1.1 million sale, the record sale price of a comic book from this era was $250,000."
The most expensive comic in the world is Action Comics #1, from June 1938.
The Golden Age comic featuring the debut of Superman sold for £926,000 ($1.5m) in 2010.
