New business self-development book uses fairytales to share key principles

The Key

Martyn Pentecost says The Key: To Business&Personal Success will reach readers at a deeper level

A leading business coach has penned a book on professional and personal development that uses the power of fairytale to get its "life-changing" messages across.

Martyn Pentecost decided to take a different approach to self-help guides after observing how the majority of titles on the market only provided "short-term fixes".

The author used his experience as one of the UK's most respected life coaches and holistic therapists to formulate a "dynamic" new approach incorporating a fairytale narrative to reach readers on a deeper level.

The resulting book, The Key: To Business&Personal Success, hit the shelves this week, released by mPowr Publishing.

Speaking yesterday, Pentecost, 41, said: "At the very heart of The Key is the idea that for a paradigm change to take place, personally or in business, a person's strategies need to come from the inside, out.

"So many development books are focused on simply bolting-on quick fixes which make us feel good in the short term, but ultimately build weak results long-term.

"The Key is intended as an ongoing resource that grows with the reader. It uses dynamic strategies that form a complex system which adapts to a person's needs, even after huge change has occurred."

Pentecost, from Sutton, Surrey, drew on ancient traditions and philosophies from Europe and the Far East while writing his book.

He says that all audiences - from CEOs to sole traders - will find the fairytale structure delivers the core principles in an easily accessible and "richly rewarding" way.

He added: "Psychology studies suggest that an excellent way of improving memory, for example, is to use some form of highly unusual narrative to 'hook' your memories on.

"This can produce utterly staggering feats of information retention. The Key is similar, but rather than just memory abilities, the stories prime the reader for the information to come.

"As the reader connects the characters, they are also associating the systems into a potent, complex series of personal and business strategies that would take many months to master, without the inclusion of the stories."

The Key: To Business&Personal Success by Martyn Pentecost (mPowr Publishing) is available now, priced £19.70.
