Ian Rankin backs Muriel Spark for Booker

Dame Murial Spark would be 'worthy winner' of 1970 Booker.
Reputed author Ian Rankin has suggested Dame Muriel Spark's
The Driver's Seat would be a worthy Man Booker Prize winner.
The novel has been nominated for the Lost Man Booker Prize of 1970, which was never awarded as a result of a change in the rules at the time, according to the Scotsman.
Mr Rankin, who is a world renowned author himself, holds Ms Spark in high regards and had actually planned to write his PhD thesis on the author until his burgeoning writing career took off.
He told the news provider: "What I like about it is it's a crime novel, but it's not in the least a typical crime novel because it's about a victim looking for a murderer.
"It's an incredibly short, complex novel about a woman who wants to commit suicide but doesn't want to do it herself, and so sets out to find a killer. It would be a worthy winner."
Dame Muriel Spark died in 2006.
