Coroner confirms bestselling author took her own life.
Susan Morgan, author of books such as
Special Delivery and
Wedding Belles, killed herself by taking an overdose of painkillers, it has been confirmed.
The coroner for the case Alan Crickmore recorded a verdict of death by suicide.
Known as a pioneer of the chick-lit genre, Ms Morgan is understood to have been suffering both emotionally and physically from the breakdown of her marriage and ill health.
Her publisher Piatkus paid testament to the huge number of people she had affected with her writing.
A spokesman for the publisher said: "She was one of the pioneers of chick-lit back in the nineties and has been entertaining her female fans ever since.
"All her stories were honest and believable with flawed but honourable heroines any woman would want to call a friend. She will be sorely missed."
Sarah Morgan, who wrote under the pseudonyms Zoe Barnes and Sue Dyson, was found dead in a hotel room on the Isle of Man last October.
