May 2013 Travel Book of the Month.
A uniquely charming, droll, moving, British narrative from writer and poet Simon Armitage as he recounts his 256 mile (North to South) walk along the Pennine Way. Particularly fascinating is that he took no money and either bartered his way through or survived on any money he made at poetry readings.

The Lovereading view...
600 words you think you know the meaning of but most probably don’t and misuse. Salubrious and desultory were surprises, even in the Lovereading office. Avoid all future embarrassments by getting the book today. A simply brilliant book that will be loved by anyone who loves, or purports to, the English language.

A 'Piece of Passion' from Sophia Blackwell, Bloomsbury Publishing...
'These witty reference books for logophiles are an important part of the Bloomsbury list, and 'How to Sound Clever' strikes the perfect balance between light-hearted and informative. We look forward very much to publishing Hubert's next book, How to Sound Really Clever, out later this year.'

Having mined her own memories and those of her colleagues, Jen Campbell opens her challenge for Weird things Customers say to fellow Booksellers worldwide. As a Bookseller of long standing, weird customer sayings and queries were like beacons in the desert, there was the thrill of the chase, could we really track down that book with a green cover by a woman that died and the wonderment of being asked for nasal sprays and spectacular temper tantrums to be marvelled at when we couldn’t identify a tune being hummed to us. A guilty pleasure then to read Jen Campbell’s collection of tales but guilty because without customers where would Bookshops be and indeed where would all these marvellous, eccentric, forgetful, mad, stupid, vain, silly and essential customers be without bookshops, The Internet won’t be listening, that’s for sure.

A journey of the mind - as well as out at sea, amid the basking sharks, seals, fulmars and waves the size of wardrobes. And while storms rage, Jasper seeks refuge in bars, playing guitar and talking, as only the Irish can, with everyone along the way. All of which makes for a unique inside view of the new and old Ireland, from a man never quite sure if he'll come through the next day in one piece.

After writing two highly praised travel books, Sara Wheeler was accepted by the American government to be the first foreigner on their National Science Foundation's Antarctic Artists' and Writers Program. She spent six weeks at the pole and on the edge of the infamous Ross Ice Shelf, as well as another month with the British Antarctic Survey. Terra Incognita is a meditation on the landscape, myths and history of one of the remotest parts of the globe, as well as an encounter with the people who inhabit this region - living in close confinement despite the surrounding acres of white space - and the mechanics of day-to-day life in extraordinary conditions. Through Sara Wheeler, the Antarctic is revealed, in all its seductive mystery.
