A well-researched and delightfully written account of the time after the Battle of Marathon and up to the time of Thermopylae seen through the eyes of a slave-cum-warrior Arimnestos. It is a tremendous period of which much has been written but this is special, one of the best covering the life of both Persians and Greeks and their different approaches to their cultures. With a strong storyline both personal and in action it begins a series. Highly recommended.
Close your eyes and you could be in 5th-century Egypt. With his trademark ability to step into the shoes of his 5th-century protagonists, once again Christian Cameron plunges us headlong into the thick of the action. This time, the indomitable Arimnestos of Plataea finds himself caught up in the ill-fated Spartan expedition to the land of the Sphinx, while on the horizon, forces gather for the colossal naval battle of Artemesium.
Awesome, both among the best of the author and of historical fiction in general...Great stuff begging volume 5 asap. FANTASYBOOKCRITIC The characters as ever are some of the most rounded and real that you will read in any historical fiction novel, the action is probably the most realistic and authentic. What sets these tales apart is that while i get the cut and thrust of battle that i love in these ancient tales, I also get so much more... This truly ranks up there as my all-time favourite series.
