Synopsis

Deadly Decisions by Kathy Reichs
Violence is escalating, and spilling onto the streets of Montreal. A nine-year-old girl is killed in crossfire on her way to ballet class. The body of a teenager killed in North Carolina is found hundreds of miles away. Forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan has to pick up the pieces: she knows she shouldn't let emotion get in the way, but when nin-year-old Emily's body is wheeled into the morgue she cannot help but react. An exhumation uncovers the bones of another inocent in a clandestine grave close to a biker gang headquarters. With her boss in hospital and sparring partner Detective Andrew Ryan mysteriously unavailable, Tempe alone begins a perilous investigation into the lawless underworld of organised crime...

Reviews

Deadly Decisions is Reichs's third murder mystery featuring Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who divides her professional life between North Carolina and Quebec. The action is principally set in Montreal, and Reichs's observations of its local geography and culture distinguish her narrative from similar tales located in the mean street of Chicago or New York. It is the fine detail in the author's writing that grips the reader; the nuances of relationships, the intricate workings of crime-fighting technology and the use of language. The novel is peppered with phrases which underscore the bilingual nature of the Quebec province, as well as the profanities of the criminal underclass. (Kirkus UK)

Fellow novelist KERRY REICHS on KATHY REICHS

When speaking of writers that have most influenced me, it’s safe to begin at the beginning. My mother Kathy Reichs has written eleven London Times best selling books and fostered the television drama Bones.  I am incredibly proud of her talents, and her pride in mine has sweetened my success. My defection from Lawyer Camp (my father and brother are lawyers) to Writer Camp was heralded with joyous open arms by my mother, and the best part is enjoying it together.  We don’t agree on everything, and we write about vastly different subject materials.  But some day I may just cave in to her pestering that I “put a dead body” in one of my books so we can write something together!  If you haven’t already, try her latest book, Devil Bones.
