As always, Chadwick simply dazzles the reader with her superb characterisation, her ability to bring the period alive, so we feel as if we are walking alongside the characters, seeing what they see, hearing the tumult surrounding them - sharing in their agonies, and celebrating their joys. About the Author
|
Elizabeth Chadwick has told herself stories all of her life, but didn't actually write anything down until she was fifteen. Her first foray into historical fiction, a novel about the Holy Land in the twelfth century, led her to the realisation that she wanted to write historical fiction for a living.
After years of writing and rejections a literary agent became interested in The Wild Hunt, which went on to become her first published novel and to win a Betty Trask Award.
Chadwick has gone on to become one of Britain's foremost historical novelists, dubbed 'The Best Writer of Medieval Fiction currently around.' by the Historical Novel Society. She is published internationally and her work has been translated into 16 languages. Her novels about the thirteenth century magnate William Marshal, The Greatest Knight, and The Scarlet Lion, have brought her international acclaim.
To Defy a King, a novel of passion, rebellion, and the fight for Magna Carta tells the story of William’s strong hearted daughter.
