Lovereading view...

One of our New Gen Debuts of the Year 2011.

Shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2011.

This is an absolutely cracking debut fantasy novel.  Every teenager should make time for it as it's truly gripping and utterly original.  You'll find yourself totally immersed from page one in a completely new and original fantasy world of where the ruling class consists of werewolves who also happen to be shapeshifters.  Apart from a great story which builds into an incredible crescendo there are some very believable characters that you'll love and you'll hate but what's guaranteed is you'll remember them all and want to meet them again when the next in the series is published.  This is a debut novel from the BAFTA award winning designer of Bob the Builder among others but his first love has always been reading fantasy and horror.

About the Author

Curtis Jobling

Curtis Jobling is an illustrator and animator, among other artistic functions, born in Blackpool, England but presently resident in Thirsk.

Jobling's academic achievements seemed meagre on his exit from school, but that did not stop him being accepted at the Cleveland College of Art & Design, Middlesbrough, for a HND in Illustration - which he studied from 1992 to 1994. A fruitful work experience placement in the puppet and prop-making department on Aardman Animations' Academy Award-winning Wallace and Gromit production A Close Shave landed Jobling a role as puppet painter on Tim Burton's Mars Attacks!

But Jobling's most universal acclaim was born out of his role in the making of childen's TV hit, Bob The Builder, on which he is production designer, the hand behind all of that programme's inimitable characters and sets. As an author and illustrator of children's books, his most (in)famous character can quite easily be recognised as Frankenstein's Cat, the muddled up feline and soon to be star of his own animated show.
