Lovereading view...

An incredibly funny account of Nigel Smith’s illness, and near death, told in a very frank, almost brutal way. As you ride along on Nigel’s journey you will be mentally exhausted from reading about everything he had to go through as well as being physically worn out by the amount of laughing you will have done along the way. Brilliant.

Synopsis

I Think There's Something Wrong With Me by Nigel Smith

Here’s something I only learned later. When the radiologist was handed the scan, he asked, ‘Righto, where’s the body?’

Shame I missed that. I could have done with a laugh.

When Nigel Smith got rushed to hospital with a brain lesion so big that the radiologist assumed he’d died, he was understandably hacked off. After all, he was one of those blokes who had it all: a loving family, a wife his friends all fancied and a thriving TV comedy career.

I Think There’s Something Wrong With Me is his amazing, hilarious account of his fight for survival. Battling a brutal illness, impossible bureaucracy and nurses that could only serve as fantasies to the writers of Doctor Who, Nigel Smith has produced a brilliant black comedy for our time. It is a book for everyone who’s ever thought, ‘there must be more to life than this’. Because sometimes things have to go seriously wrong to make us realize just how much is right.

‘Remarkable… A blackly comic romp’ Sunday Times

‘Searingly funny’ Daily Telegraph

About the Author

A former journalist, busker, playwright and TV comedy producer, Nigel Smith has worked with many of the UK's middlest-sized names in showbusiness. He created and co-wrote the BBC One sitcom Doctors and Nurses. He wrote the highly acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series Vent, which is when his mum stopped talking to him. He's half responsible for the popular BBC Radio 2 comedy Teenage Kicks. This time his kids stopped talking to him. In 2001 he suffered a serious brain illness which, frankly, he never stops banging on about.
