Lovewriting.co.uk – a new voice for independently published authors

Are you one of the tens of thousands of people who have either written a book, or feel there is one in you? Well our new website www.lovewriting.co.uk could be for you. Please read on for more information and do get in touch if you think we can help.

lovewriting logo

With the internet and new technology, it is easier and cheaper than ever to publish your book. However, as the internet grows to an incomprehensible size, harder than ever to tell potential readers it exists.

In March 2008, The Bookseller magazine reported, “the number of books published in the UK sky rocketed to the highest level ever last year, driven by an increase in print-on-demand titles… the number of new titles sold hit 118,602, up 36% from 2006 (86,984)”.

But, if you are an ‘independent’ author with a book to sell, you will find it very hard to achieve any significant distribution in bookshops. Yes, you can develop your own website, but the reality is that few potential purchasers will ever find your book online out of the millions that are available.

Lovereading Ltd. has addressed this issue by providing a unique and innovative solution. With over 150,000 avid readers now signed up for its free online book recommendation service, Lovereading Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of Lovewriting.co.uk, which will enable independently published authors a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution for readers to discover their books.

On Lovewriting.co.uk, individual authors and independent publishers can feature a title for as little as £100 a year.  For this, the author and book will get an exclusive ‘Featured Book’ page devoted to each book plus access to an e-commerce system to allow the book to be bought.

The one difference from Lovereading, where each Featured Book is read, reviewed and recommended by the Lovereading team led by Sarah Broadhurst, is that on Lovewriting each author will provide their own personal ‘review’ headed ‘Why I wrote this book’.

Crucially – and this will be a major attraction for independent authors – on Lovewriting, just like on Lovereading, readers will be able to download and read, for free, Opening Extracts of each book. And if readers like what they read, they will be able to order and buy independently published books all in one Basket and all in one payment.

To further help readers, books will be categorised by genre. So, if readers have expressed an interest in a particular category of books on Lovereading, they will easily be able to ‘discover’ new authors within their own chosen category on Lovewriting.

Additionally, Lovewriting has formed a relationship with the recognised and respected self-publishing house, Matador, who can guide as yet unpublished authors through the publishing process.  However, if a would-be author would rather go it alone and get their book published, Lovewriting provides an easy to use guide to take them through every step of the self-publishing process.

The author Caro Fraser, previously published by both Orion and Penguin, and best known for her Caper Court series of legal novels, ventured into self-publishing with her latest book Breath of Corruption. She is one of the founding authors of www.Lovewriting.co.uk, and has said:

‘I chose the UK’s self-publishing experts, Matador, to publish my latest novel, Breath Of Corruption, and having worked with various established publishing companies, I was delighted with the success Matador have achieved – the book is already on its second print run. With the internet, it’s easier and cheaper than ever to self-publish. New technologies offer great opportunities to new and independent authors. All of us who have had our books published and sold can remember how hard it is to be published in the first place. I very much hope that, through Lovewriting, more and more new authors will be given the chance to find an audience and break through.’

Please note that Lovewriting is currently at the ‘Beta’ stage. The website is being populate with more books and content over the next few weeks. But We hope independently published authors find it a help.

Lovereading.co.uk is voted the 15th best book shop in the UK!

In a recent article published by The Independent newspaper – Lovereading has been listed as the 15th best book shop in the UK – to see what The Independent said about us see below – and to read the whole article click on the link

15. Lovereading

“Lovereading is a very lively and active website, which emails you about every couple of weeks with reading suggestions,” says Peter. The website offers free downloads of opening extracts from many of its books, to allow readers to get a taste for what they’re buying. “It’s very good at selecting both popular fiction and books you may not necessarily have heard of. The site’s critics are quite reliable, too.”

Must reads for June – all with free Opening Extracts

The 21st Hay-On-Wye Literary Festival has just finished, and it’s a proud time to be British (because we have one of the world’s best book events, not because of the torrential rain). So shun the TV soap operas and exercise your erudite inner Brit with a good novel.

Clean CutBook of the Month is Clean Cut by the acclaimed Lynda La Plante, the third in the compellingAnna Travis series. When Anna’s boyfriend, DCI Langton, is horrifically injured during a murder arrest, Anna becomes vital to his recovery; and the new case she is assigned to work on gradually becomes linked to the one Langton was working on when he was attacked.

Lynda has also written a letter exclusively for Lovereading readers. Click here to read it.

American CrimeOur new category, American Crime , brings together some of the US’s best crime writers, such as Michael ConnellyHarlan Coben and George P Pelecanos. Connelly’s new paperback, The Overlook , isn’t out until July, but you can start reading it now with our exclusive Pre-Publication Opening Extract. Plus enter our free prize draw to win one of three posters signed by the authors above!

Moon CalledHave you heard about the NEW category of books ‘Paranormal Romance’? Well our Series of the Month by Patricia Briggs is a great place to start.  Moon Called is the first book charting the story of Mercedes Thompson, a coyote shape-shifter who has to deal with trolls, old boyfriends, and even older vampires. We’ve got the next two books in the series, Blood Bound and Iron Kiss, as exclusive Pre-Publication titles, so you can try them out and order before anyone else. Suspend disbelief and give it a try!

We have two great Debuts of the Month:

My Vintage SummerMy Vintage Summer by Jane Elmor is a wonderfully energetic novel about two adolescent friends, Lizzie and Kim, growing up to become women in hedonistic but problematic ’80s London.

The Household Guide to DyingAnd The Household Guide to Dying is Australian Debra Adelaide’s third novel, but her first to be published in the UK. Debra’s fictional heroine, Delia, is a happy, funny and energetic family woman. But she also knows she is dying of cancer, and has some things she wants to do before leaving this world. Quirky, warm and unsentimental, this is a brilliant book.

Father's DayFather’s Day is fast approaching and if you still need to find a gift, look no further. We have a special selection of books guaranteed to make papa proud.
Bad Idea Anthology

Finally, we’re pleased to introduce the Bad Idea Anthology, the first collection of contemporary non-fiction writing from “Bad Idea” magazine, one of the hippest literary journals around. There are pieces by fantastic new voices as well as established writers like Mil Millington and Patrick Neate.

So download some free Opening Extracts of these awe-inspiring books and find some stories to make you love reading even more. And remember that all the books on Lovereading can be bought with a magnificent 25% discount on the RRP.
